I think a lot of parents nowadays have this notion that their lives shouldn’t really change all that much when they have children. They envision themselves doing all the same things they usually did, but with a baby and accompanying gear in tow. I was certainly like that before Abby was born. I didn’t want to become one of those mothers whose entire life is wrapped up in her children, who has no identity apart from that of Mother. Last weekend I started a fundraiser for Christian author Sandi Rog. Those of you who have been around for a while may remember her story. The traditional treatments of chemo, radiation, and bone marrow transplant have proven ineffectual, and Sandi is now pursuing a new treatment that is not yet covered by insurance. If you, like me, aren’t a big fan of daily devotionals, but you’re looking for something quick to help get your day off on the right foot and focused on the Lord, I cannot recommend enough the amazing little book Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. When everything fell apart back in July, I dug it out and started reading it again, and it has been an absolute life (and faith) saver over the last couple months.
